THE COFFS Harbour Crusaders Junior Rugby Union Club has celebrated an incredible milestone.
Player numbers hit an all-time high of 429 registered players in 2025, up from just 180 in 2018.
This growth cements the Crusaders as one of the fastest-growing junior rugby competitions in regional Australia.
Crusaders president Paul Butcher said the surge in numbers is a testament to the hard work of volunteers, the commitment of families, and the strength of the rugby community in the wider Coffs Harbour and Grafton region
“When you think back to 2018, we were a small competition just trying to get kids on the field,” he said.
“Fast forward to now, and we’re bursting at the seams with talented young players across every age group of under 7/8s, 9s, 10s, 11s and 12s.
“It’s a sign that kids and families love what we’re building here — a fun, safe and inclusive rugby environment.”
The Crusaders historic season culminated with junior grand finals on Friday 15 August, at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium.
Butcher said grand final night is about more than just winning.
“This night is about celebrating the game, the friendships, and the community that makes rugby so special,” he said.
“Our junior referees [also] make this a prime example of how everyone can be involved.
“Whether you’re playing for first place, refereeing as a junior 13-17 years old or just soaking up the atmosphere, everyone is part of the rugby family for life.”
