IF you’re looking for a school holiday activity that’s equal parts fun, eye-opening, and unforgettable, the Animal Carer Experience at Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary is hard to beat.
Designed for curious kids and teens aged 8–16, this hands-on program gives participants a real glimpse into the world of marine wildlife care – from feeding and observing the animals in our care to learning the science behind rescue and rehabilitation.
Sessions run throughout January, and it’s a day packed with discovery.
Participants step behind the scenes, join the team in their daily routines, and see first-hand what goes into supporting injured turtles, caring for marine mammals, and understanding the unique needs of each species.
It’s fun, it’s inspiring, and it’s grounded in genuine conservation work.
“The Animal Carer Experience gives young people a rare opportunity to understand what wildlife care really involves,” said Tiga Cross, Managing Director at the Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary.
“It builds empathy, encourages curiosity, and helps them see the impact they can have. It’s one of the most meaningful programs we run.”
For many kids, it becomes a highlight of their holidays – and sometimes a spark for a lifelong passion.
Past participant Emma MacPherson said, “It’s such a great day – you get to get up close with the animals, and I learned so much about them.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about what the animal carers do here at the Sanctuary, and lunch was great too.”
If your young adventurer is ready to roll up their sleeves, learn new skills, and experience the Sanctuary in a completely new way, bookings are now open.
