COFFS City Inc. Probus Club recently held its AGM and changeover dinner, with John Williams re-elected President.
Life Membership was awarded to Myra Capps for her tireless work for the club.
Myra and her husband Ken have been members for 20 years.
Myra has held various responsibilities – including for activities, welfare, arranging guest speakers, and being club secretary several times.
This year is the 50th year since Probus commenced in Australia and Coffs City Inc. is in its 40th year.
There is also a second Probus club in Coffs Harbour.
Coffs City Inc. has 57 members, with one member aged 101 and another about to turn 100.
The Club meets on the fourth Wednesday each month at Sawtell RSL and also arranges two activities each month, such as lunches, picnics and mini golf.
Twenty to 30 people usually attend and the club supports local venues from Urunga to Woolgoolga.
It is currently planning “Christmas in July” at Dorrigo.
There is also an unofficial morning tea at C.ex club.
Mr Williams said, “It’s a chance for people to see if Probus is for them. Just come along and say ‘hello’.
“Probus is purely social, and is for retired people to meet and chat.
“It’s great for everyone’s mental health to get out and socialise.
People look out for each other.”
