Coffs Harbour Music Society presents Ensemble Trivium in concert

COFFS Harbour Music Society will host Ensemble Trivium in concert on Friday 24 April at John Paul College Theatre.

The vibrant collective of some of Brisbane’s leading musicians – flautist Monika Koerner, violinist Anne Horton and violist Yoko Okayasu – is renowned for creating exhilarating concert experiences.

“It is a great pleasure to continue to have performers of this high calibre coming to Coffs Harbour,” Music Society president Dr Leigh Summers said.

With warmth, flair and imagination, the trio weave together timeless masterworks, contemporary gems, and world premieres, often unearthing musical treasures that deserve to be heard.

“It is wonderful to hear unfamiliar works by great composers such as Beethoven on their programs.”

There will be a free pre-concert talk at 6:30pm, in which Vice President Robert Smallwood will reveal some of the extraordinary craft and joy hiding in these great works.

The concert of richly contrasted chamber music showcases the expressive possibilities of the flute, violin and viola.

The program opens with Bohuslav Martinu’s Three Madrigals for violin and viola.

This is a vibrant, folk inspired and playful work full of rhythmic vitality and wit.

While written in the twentieth century, it draws on older dance forms, and the piece sparkles with colour and spontaneity as a result.

Beethoven’s Serenade in D major, Op. 25 follows.

It is a work from his early Viennese years, brimming with sparkling virtuosity and refined beauty.

This work is by turns lyrical, humorous and warmly conversational, revealing Beethoven’s gift to blend sophistication with pure joy.

The concert concludes with Zoltán Kodály’s Serenade, Op. 12, in a compelling arrangement for flute, violin and viola.
