DEAR News Of The Area,
I am writing to share this photo, which was taken on Sunday, 14 June, while taking a walk to the back of Muttonbird Island.
We just happened to see this swamp wallaby among the muttonbird burrows.
She wasn’t at all disturbed. She just stood there and looked at us as we took the photo.
I don’t think there’s a colony there because swampies are usually solitary.
The question for me is: how did she get to the island?
She must have hopped along the north wall, but this raises a question about where she came from before that. Maybe the Coffs Creek area or behind Beacon Hill?
I suggest you talk to the National Parks and Wildlife Service and ask if they’re aware of a wallaby on Muttonbird.
Regards,
Marcus Baynes-Rock,
Coffs Harbour.
