WOOLGOOLGA High School Year 12 students serving at Woolgoolga Red Cross Branch’s Friendship Afternoon Tea made the members’ day last month.
They announced their commitment to donating the cost of hiring the rooms for more than a year to enable the Friendship Afternoon Teas to continue to provide this invaluable activity for our seniors.
The monthly Friendship Afternoon Teas have been running for over 30 years, providing an outing for seniors in the community.
“Entertainment is provided by local groups and individuals, there are jokes, quizzes and singalongs, and lovely home-made food is a highlight,” branch president Kerry Chaffey said.
Students from Woolgoolga High School, under the leadership of teacher Kate March, have been attending in a working role.
“They help with setting up the tables, serving afternoon teas and joining in with the clean-up later,” Ms March said.
“Those who attend the afternoon really enjoy the participation of the students and love having a chat with them.”
During the June afternoon tea, a group of school prefects worked and socialised with the audience before making a presentation of $500 to the organisation.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of the Year 12 students and receiving this overwhelmimg donation relieves us of some of our fundraising and ensures that these afternoons can continue,” Ms Chaffey said.
“These young people exemplify all that is great about this generation.
“We wish them well in the years ahead.”
