NOBODY was more surprised with Cameron Pollard’s win in the Srixon NSW Inclusion Championship played at Coffs Harbour Golf Club than the man himself.
Heading to the first tee on Monday Pollard admitted that his confidence wasn’t that high.
“I haven’t been playing that great,” Pollard said. “So I set some low expectations – then you can’t get too upset about anything. But I’m pretty happy with how I played.”
This mindset shows why the 27 year-old was stunned when he found himself four-under par after only seven holes.
That fast start led to Pollard shooting an opening round 65 on his home course.
“That was my lowest round here at Coffs and I haven’t shot that low in a while, which was really nice,” he said.
In the second round of the 36-hole event, Pollard kept it steady to shoot a 73 and finish 10 strokes in front of Lochie Smith from Sawtell.
The NSW Inclusive Championship is open to players with a physical, sensory or intellectual impairment, based on the International Golf Federation definitions of impairment, and a strong field gathered for the Coffs Harbour event.
The win could give Pollard a small but valuable points boost that could see his impressive world ranking improve from his current 40th in the world.
