DV Safe Phone and Coffs City Rotary are launching a new campaign in Coffs Harbour City, encouraging people to donate their old phones for victims of domestic violence.
DV Safe Phone is a national charity that collects old phones, wipes all personal information and services them, before providing them free to victims of domestic violence.
The reason they do this is that perpetrators often either break their partner’s phone, or put a tracking device on it, further controlling them.
A new phone can change a person’s life.
Coffs City Rotary began supporting the initiative in June 2025.
Paul McKeon, from Coffs City Rotary Club, said the club is assisting DV Safe Phone because the members believe that the initiative is making a real difference to people suffering from domestic violence.
“Over the last five years this charity has provided free phones to over 21,000 people who really needed help,” Mr McKeon said.
“Unfortunately, more phones are still required, and we hope that local Coffs Harbour residents will help by donating their old phones.”
The social media campaign lists the locations of all the phone collection boxes: Moonee Hotel, Park Beach Plaza Information Desk, Coffs Harbour Hotel, Coffs Harbour Library, Happy Frog Café, SOS Phone Repairs, Coffs Central Information Desk and Toormina Library.
The list includes new locations, making it easier for people to donate their old phones.
“If you have an old phone in a drawer at home, it can be a lifesaver for someone who has no way to contact friends, family or help services,” Mr McKeon said.
“Please donate it by dropping it into a DV Safe Phone collection box at any of these locations.”
