LIFELINE North Coast is launching the inaugural Mind Your Mates community BBQ in Brelsford Park, Coffs Harbour on Wednesday 7 October.
Lifeline North Coast, Welcome Hospitality and BCU Bank have teamed up for the free community breakfast open to all from 7am to 8.30am at Brelsford Park in the heart of Coffs Harbour.
The motivation is the statistics around male suicides and the life-changing benefit of connection.
Around 75 per cent of people who die by suicide in Australia are men.
Many men face challenges in silence, often feeling they need to cope on their own.
“Community and connection are so important in bringing a sense of belonging and reassurance that you do not have to face life’s challenges alone,” Lifeline North Coast Chief Executive Officer Angela Martin told News Of The Area.
“Mind Your Mates is about showing up, encouraging men to get support, and reminding them that Lifeline is always here when they need help.
“You are not alone.”
While this event is focussing on men’s mental health, the organisers want to encourage women, partners, friends, family and colleagues to come along, and show support for the men in the community.
The crew from Welcome Hospitality will be lighting up the BBQ and serving free bacon and egg rolls from 7am.
“You’ll also be able to enjoy a freshly brewed barista coffee, thanks to BCU Bank,” Ms Martin said.
“Bring your mates along for a casual get together, share stories and help build a stronger, more connected community.”
Lifeline North Coast is a not-for-profit organisation based in Coffs Harbour, providing crisis support, suicide prevention, community education, and mental health services.
It is part of the national Lifeline Australia network and contributes to the 24/7 crisis support service on 13 11 14.
