THE temperature is rising and the flags are up as the Coffs Coast region prepares for another summer by the water.
Surf Life Saving North Coast (SLSNC) welcomed the new season with its annual Raising of the Flags ceremony, which took place on Saturday, 26 September at Woolgoolga SLS Club.
SLSNC President Les Pepper highlighted the important role community vigilance played in ensuring safety on the beach.
“Last season almost 2,200 volunteers from across the North Coast provided first aid on 80 occasions, completed 425 preventative actions, and saved 17 lives through rescues, clocking up more than 19,000 patrol hours,” Mr Pepper said.
The region is well-prepared for the busy months ahead with eight Surf Life Saving clubs stretching from Nambucca Heads to Minnie Water-Wooli.
“Our Nippers program plays an exciting role for young people starting their lifesaving journey, who are essential to ensuring everyone’s safety, with thousands of visitors last summer and more expected this season,” Mr Pepper said.
With more people heading to the coast as the weather heats up, SLSNC maintains their dedication to keeping beachgoers safe.
