LETTER: Is Coffs Council paying lip-service to climate change

DEAR News OF The Area,

THE current direction of our local council in Coffs Harbour has taken a serious backward step with the decision to rescind its 2022 Declaration of a Climate Emergency.

Equally, the call to remove Scope 3 emissions from the Renewal Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan suggests the current conservative majority in Coffs Council is only paying lip-service to our area’s attempts to combat climate change, which is clearly an existential threat to our life as we know it.

In my opinion the scientific evidence is clear, but as so often in the world of conservative ideology, politics takes precedence over policy, to our cost now and in the future.

Regards,

Frank Dean,

Woolgoolga.
