THE City of Coffs Harbour will give prospective by-election candidates an inside look at what it’s really like to be a Councillor in Coffs Harbour at a special information session on Wednesday 28 October.
The one-hour session, to be held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in the River Oak Room at Yarrila Place, will focus on the local Councillor experience, including the breadth of the City’s responsibilities and the range of issues, services and major decisions Councillors get involved in.
Being elected to Council is an opportunity to play an important role in the future of Coffs Harbour, but it also comes with significant responsibility.
Candidates don’t need to be an expert in local government – Councillors come from diverse backgrounds and bring different skills, experiences and perspectives.
City of Coffs Harbour General Manager Murray Wood said the session would give prospective candidates a clearer picture of what being a Councillor involved.
“Being a Councillor is an important gig. You’re making decisions that affect our community today and also helping shape where Coffs Harbour is heading in the years ahead,” Mr Wood said.
“Council is a big and complex organisation. There’s a lot to get your teeth into from a strategic point of view, from finances and infrastructure to services, major projects and long-term planning.
“If you’re considering putting your hand up, come along, ask questions and get a feel for the role and the responsibility that comes with it.”
