Coffs Water Polo Club hosts Banana Bowl

The Coffs Harbour team gets into the spirit of the Banana Bowl.

COFFS Harbour Water Polo Club have held their annual Banana Bowl at the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Pool.

The Banana Bowl is an Under 12s tournament which saw Coffs Harbour take on visiting clubs from Alstonville, Gosford, Tamworth, Lake Macquarie, Narrabri, and Newcastle.

President of Coffs Harbour Water Polo Club, Kirsten Binnie, gave a recap of this year’s successful event.

“It’s the fourth year we’ve hosted the Banana Bowl, and it’s the biggest one we’ve had,” she said.

“We had nine teams and they played each other once, and then we had crossover finals.

“The standard was really high and the finals were really close; only one goal in it in most of the games.”

The Coffs Harbour team came second, after losing the grand final 9-5 to Narrabri/Easts.

Kirsten said Water Polo was growing steadily in Coffs Harbour.

“It’s definitely growing, we have lots of juniors, and the seniors is the area which is growing the most,” she said.

“We had a men’s team compete at an NSW Masters event in Tamworth recently, and they came fifth, so that was a great experience for them.”

Coffs Harbour Water Polo Club holds competitions on Monday nights, with training on Wednesday nights.
