Letter to the Editor: Let our elected representatives know

DEAR News Of The Area,

I’M sure most would agree that the Jetty Foreshore area is one of the most iconic in all of Coffs Harbour.

Most would have spent time there as children and then seen their own children enjoy the beaches and open spaces.

This area is now under threat of being transformed into a dense housing area for wealthy investors and lost forever to the families past, present and future.

Despite the overwhelming majority of the community opposing the construction of residential homes in the area, the government, supported by the Coffs Harbour Council continues to ignore the people in favour of unelected bureaucrats and powerful lobby groups who are more interested in profits than supporting the people they are supposed to be representing.

Many who oppose this government plan live in areas where they don’t frequent the jetty, but I’m sure there are special places in their local areas that they would not want to see destroyed by government decisions that favour developers.

The only way these areas can be saved is by the community working together to let the government and their minions know that we are in control of our local areas.

If we work together as a community we can be the most powerful lobby group, because we vote.

It only takes a few minutes to write an email to your local representative and the relevant government minister and tell them that you don’t agree.
That’s really all you have to say.

Let’s work together as a community and let our elected representatives know that we are not happy and they need to support us and not the developers and others who benefit financially by their decisions at our expense.

Kind regards,

George CHRISTINSON,

Coffs Harbour.
