A WOMAN has died and three other people were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Coramba Road between Karangi and Coramba on Sunday 17 May.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 10:45pm after reports a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a power pole before rolling.
Police say two female occupants were trapped in the vehicle when emergency crews arrived.
A 20-year-old woman died at the scene while the second woman, also 20, is understood to have suffered serious leg and pelvic injuries.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, and a 16-year-old boy, had freed themselves from the vehicle and were treated for minor injuries.
The driver was arrested at the scene and later placed under police guard in hospital, where he underwent mandatory testing.
All occupants are locals.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examined the scene.
Heavy rain and reduced visibility at the time are among the factors being examined.
The crash caused significant disruption in the area overnight and into the following day.
Coramba Road between Karangi and Coramba was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene, reopening about 2pm on Monday 18 May.
Downed powerlines required attendance by electricity crews, with nearby properties experiencing temporary outages while repairs were carried out and the area made safe.
The closure impacted a key local route used by residents, including commuter traffic and school transport, causing diversions through surrounding roads.
Police have appealed for anyone with dashcam footage or information to assist the investigation.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
