A cappella group celebrates two years with flash mob at Valla Beach Tavern

A VIBRANT local singing group has celebrated its second anniversary in style, surprising patrons with a ‘flash mob’ performance at the Valla Beach Tavern.

The Valla Beach A cappella Good Vibes Singing Group, which has been building momentum across the Nambucca Valley, marked the milestone with a spontaneous performance of The Lion Sleeps Tonight and We Will Rock You.

The performance captured the spirit of fun and community at the heart of the group.

Founded by local musician Heather Rose, the group has grown to around 30 members, drawing participants from Woolgoolga, Bellingen, Nambucca Heads, Macksville, Urunga, Sawtell and Valla.

The group was originally created as a welcoming space for people to come together through music, regardless of vocal ability, with a strong focus on positivity, inclusion and enjoyment.

“It’s open to everyone, no matter what vocal ability, but nice people only who are willing to let go and let it happen,” Heather told News Of The Area.

Members describe the sessions as a safe and uplifting environment where people can relax, build confidence and rediscover the joy of singing.

“There’s laughter, fun and a bit of silliness, and people learn to trust the process,” Heather added.

Over the past two years, the group has also used its voice to support the community, including performing at a forest ecology fundraiser and raising around $400 to assist a local family following the tragic loss of their teenage son at Valla Beach.

Creativity is another key element, with members regularly contributing to original songs and enjoying the shared experience of making music together.

Heather said one of her favourite aspects is seeing how quickly time passes during sessions.

“It’s the quickest hour they spend each week,” she said.

The group continues to receive strong community support and positive feedback, with many members discovering or rediscovering their voice along the way.
