Community turns out in the rain for women’s health milestone

WOMEN have turned out in droves to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Coffs Harbour Women’s Health Centr (CHWHC).

On 6 May, around 70 people braved the wet weather for a social beach walk and stretch session at the Jetty Foreshore.

Attendees included directors, past and present staff, community leaders such as Susan Hoff District Co-ordinator Women’s Health for the Mid North Coast Local Health District, Councillor Cath Fowler, former CEO Bronwyn Chalmers and Lifeline CEO Ange Martin, alongside local community members.

Opening in 1986, the centre, which is now operated by Health Voyage, proudly states that it is run by women for women.

It offers targeted services for all stages of a woman’s journey, including family planning, women’s mental health, menstrual issues, menopause, health screening, sexual health and domestic and family violence.

The service provides access to female GPs, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, such as dietitians and physiotherapists as well as group classes.

The CHWHC operates as a not-for-profit organisation. It aims to prioritise accessibility by offering bulk-billed and low-cost services to ensure healthcare remains affordable for everyone.

The centre also runs a dedicated travelling outreach clinic, bringing care to areas including Bellingen and Woolgoolga.The clinic operates by appointment only.
