C.EX GROUP Coffs Harbour Running Festival has introduced a free Kids and Families 1km run/walk thanks to funding from Mid North Coast Community Health Fund.
The Healthy Communities Mid North Coast grant has allowed the running festival organisers to add a free, fully inclusive one-kilometre event designed for children and families to run or walk inside the Coffs Showground.
“This new distance is all about removing barriers and giving every child the chance to be part of race day,” race director Keelan Birch told News Of The Area.
“This safe 1km loop was designed after seeing huge interest in our kids’ participation through the Key Community Group 3km event, which is still very much part of the festival for those wanting a longer run or walk.
“Whether it’s their very first ‘race’ or a family walk together, this is about building healthy habits, confidence and community connection from a young age.”
There is no minimum age; prams, strollers and wheelchairs are welcome; kids can go solo or with a parent; and numbered bibs are provided. It is an untimed event with no prizes.
The Coffs Harbour Running Festival takes place at Coffs Harbour Showground on Sunday, 30 August with long-distance races kicking off at 6am and the Kids Race starting at 9:15am.
Registration is required to help the organisers plan the day, and everyone receives a medal of participation.
The Healthy Communities Mid North Coast grants were established to support projects that will create a ripple effect and benefit communities.
Grant applications are reviewed against criteria that demonstrate that the project supports the health and wellbeing of a community.
Successful projects must also show that they build capacity for preventive health and improve social connectivity.
