Women’s self-expression workshop gets creative

VISIBLE: Art, Story, and Self-Expression for Women 50+ is a free creative journey for women over 50 to connect back to their body, confidence, and community.

“The project was born from conversations with many women navigating post-menopause, particularly around their relationship with their bodies and identity after such a significant transition,” Project Coordinator, Claire Craven told News Of The Area.

“So many shared that they no longer feel connected to their bodies, some even avoiding the mirror altogether.

“This experience really stayed with me, and it sparked a desire to help shift the narrative around aging, toward something more empowering, visible, and worth celebrating.”

Having completed the first course earlier in the year, proving to be “so impactful”, the organisers are running round two starting Thursday 2 July for three consecutive weeks, 3:00–4:30pm.

It takes place at Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre.

Hosted by artist Sabrina Cherrier, Visible combines creativity, reflection, storytelling, and genuine connection in a supportive space.

“You do not need to be an artist,” Ms Craven said.

“This isn’t about creating a masterpiece; it’s about meeting yourself again.”

The first week, themed Connect, introduces participants to the story behind Visible.

“The group meet each other, build connections, and explore simple photography.”

Week 2, themed create, begins with guided meditation, moves into a sharing circle, followed by a ‘paint your self-portrait (pre-drawn)’ session.

“No painting experience needed.”

The third week is about reflection, where participants can celebrate their journey, reflect on what shifted, and explore what comes next.

Spaces are limited and participants are asked to attend all three sessions, as this is a complete journey rather than a drop-in program.
