LETTER: Hope for my children, and all children

I LOOK at my kids and I see the future staring back at me – not the headlines, not the noise, not the fear that adults keep recycling like old storms, but something quieter, something steadier, something still capable of wonder.

They walk into the world with eyes open, seeing the cracks we tried to hide, seeing the consequences we once ignored, seeing the cost of wanting everything in a world that can break under too much wanting.

And yet – they carry hope like a small flame cupped in their hands, a flame that refuses to go out even when the wind rises.

I hope they grow into people who remember that glitter is only glitter – bright, loud, temporary – and that the real treasures are the ones that don’t shout for attention: kindness, integrity, curiosity, the courage to listen, the strength to choose enough instead of everything.

I hope they learn that wanting is not wrong, but wanting without consequence is a kind of blindness.

I hope they grow into adults who can see the shape of their choices before they step into them, who can feel the weight of the world without letting it crush their joy.

And I hope – for all children – that the world they inherit is gentler than the one we built, that the leaders they meet are wiser than the ones we followed, that the noise they hear does not drown out their own inner compass.

Because children are not born afraid. They are born ready. Ready to learn, ready to build, ready to imagine something better than the mess we hand them.

My hope is simple: that they keep their clarity, their honesty, their ability to see through glitter and into truth. And that when the world trembles, they stand steady – not because it is easy, but because they were raised to understand the cost of wanting and the beauty of choosing well.
