Coles is bananas to dump Coffs produce

DEAR News Of The Area,

I WRITE in regards to your recent front-page article (‘Coles cuts Coffs’, NOTA, 4/9/6).

I’m with our local banana growers.

It’s an absolute disgrace that Coles are now bringing bananas all the way from Queensland to sell in their Coffs Coast supermarkets instead of local fruit.

In nine years of living in the area I’ve never bought bananas at Coles locally, but when I’ve been elsewhere, for example, visiting family, I have occasionally  purchased Queensland bananas from Coles.

Let me tell you – by comparison with our local fruit, they are tasteless!

I urge all residents to boycott Coles when it comes to buying bananas. Fresco in Coffs Central is convenient and their (local) fruit is no more expensive than Coles.

There’s also the Cunningham kiosk on the east side of the highway just before the Stadium Drive turnoff, which has great-tasting fruit even cheaper!

Regards,

Martyn Yeomans,

Sapphire Beach.
