Coffs junior cricket season gets under way

COFFS Coast’s junior cricketers got their season underway, as Sixers Cricket League – Coffs Harbour’s junior season began after the initial opening rounds were washed out.

Under 16s

The under-16s season commenced with Round 2 matches, after their opening round was washed out.

The Woolgoolga Cricket Club Rebels began their premiership defence with a 75-run win against Coffs Colts Cricket Club at Reg Ryan Oval.

The Rebels scored 7/164 from their 20 overs, after the Colts won the toss and elected to bowl.

Sahibjit Singh top scored retiring on 55 not out off just 25 balls, while Dustin Parry took 2-18 from three overs for the Colts.

The Rebels defended their total in style, restricting the Colts to 4/89 from 20 overs.

Charley Perrett took 2-10 from two overs.

Diggers Cricket Club went to the top of the ladder with a 20-run win against Bellingen Cricket Club at Connell Park.

Diggers finished at 5/82 from their 20 overs, after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Sejal Singh Mahal top scored with 32.

Diggers successfully defended their total keeping Bellingen to 9/62 from 20 overs.

Sachin van der Walt took 3-6 from three overs, and Darcy Franks took 3-9 from three overs.

Sawtell Sloggers were also winners in Round 2, besting the Macksville Bulls by five wickets at Phillip Hughes Oval.

The Bulls were bowled out for 24 in the 15th over, after winning the toss and electing to bat.

James Weber took 3-2 from two overs for the Sloggers, Joshua de Groot took 2-0 from two overs, and Oakley Baylis took 2-3 from two overs.

Sawtell reached the Bulls total in the ninth over, John Bell took 3-1 from two overs for the Bulls.

Under 12s

The Macksville Bulls began their premiership defence with a 30-run win against Woolgoolga Cricket Club Rebels Blue at Donnelly Welsh Field.

The Bulls finished at 4/87 from 20 overs, after the Rebels won the toss and elected to bowl.

Bentley Ramunno top scored with 28 not out.

The Bulls restricted the Rebels to 9/57 from 18.4 overs, Samuel Bunton took 2-1 from two overs, Alexander Hawes took 2-4 from 2.4 overs, Deegan Seubert took 2-5 from two overs, and Bexley Grace took 2-7 from two overs.

The Sawtell Sixers went to the top of the ladder after their 60-run win against Woolgoolga Cricket Club Rebels Silver in Woolgoolga.

The Sixers posted 2/101 from 20 overs, after the Rebels won the toss and elected to bowl.

Sawtell kept the Rebels to 9/41 from 19.3 overs, Oliver Sommers took 2-4 from three overs, and Oden Laurie took 2-4 from 2.3 overs.

Bellingen Cricket Club were also victorious in the opening round, defeating Woolgoolga Cricket Club Rebels White by 52-runs at Connell Park.

Bellingen finished at 3/91 from their 20 overs, after the Rebels won the toss and elected to bowl.

Edward Estreich retired on 24 not out, and Elka Browne took 2-10 from three overs for the Rebels.

Bellingen defended their total as the Rebels finished at 8/39 from 19.2 overs.

Edward Estreich took 3-2 from 3.2 overs, Arthur West took 2-2 from three overs, and Edmond Wadick took 2-6 from three overs.

The Dorrigo Buzzards got their season off to a winning start, smashing Coffs Colts Cricket Club by 72-runs at Rowe Oval.

Dorrigo scored 4/145 from 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Patrick Moffatt finished on 37 not out, and Samo Floridan finished on 22 not out.

Chasing 146 for victory, the Colts finished at 5/73 from 20 overs.

Urunga Cricket Club were also opening round winners, beating the Sawtell Sloggers by three wickets at Toormina Oval.

Sawtell posted 2/53 from 20 overs, after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Urunga chased down the total in the 17th over, Hudson Dolan took 2-3 from two overs for Sawtell.

The Nana Glen Lizards and Diggers Cricket Club shared the points after their match finished in a tie at Len Towells Oval.

Diggers finished at 6/48 from 20 overs, after the Lizards won the toss and elected to bowl.

Chasing 49 for victory, the Lizards also finished at 6/48 from their 20 overs.

Hamish Loy took 2-2 from two overs for Diggers.
