AFL juniors descend upon Coffs for Northern NSW Championship

WHEN the AFL junior representative carnival begins on Wednesday at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium and adjacent Leisure Park grounds, there will be approximately 750 young footballers playing.

Across three consecutive days, boys and girls in the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups will be putting their best foot forward in the annual Northern NSW Championship.

Renowned as the best junior representative carnival in the state, the event has now grown even bigger.

“This year will see teams from the Northern Rivers region returning to play for the first time since COVID and a team from the Sapphire Coast will be making the 10-hour drive up the coast to enjoy playing in the event,” said Brad Greenshields, the Community Football and Competition Manager for AFL Northern NSW.

Players from those teams will be able to test their abilities against opponents from not only the local AFL North Coast competition but also players from the North West, Hunter, Central Coast and South Coast.

Anybody looking to get a fix of AFL over the three days won’t be short of opportunities. With more teams playing this year than ever, Greenshields said there will be a total of 99 matches being played.

The C.ex Coffs International Stadium will be hosting almost 12 hours of football on Wednesday and Thursday with games under lights going until approximately 8.00pm.

Friday will see the final matches played until the early afternoon with each program working hard to the end.

Entry for spectators to the carnival is free.
