THE Coffs Coast Waste Services App is now live and free to download on either the App Store or Google Play.
While much of the information on household waste and recycling services has been available on the council’s website, having access to an app makes a quick check easy for those with a mobile phone.
Knowing which waste bin to put out, and when, is expected to be a highly used feature, along with accessing waste and recycling info quickly and searching nearby disposal locations.
“Life can get super busy and probably everyone at some stage or another has walked out to the street to check what colour bin the neighbours have rolled out,” City of Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams said.
“While this new app won’t actually take the bin to the kerb for you, it will let you know just about everything else.”
The app is personalised for residents by Coffs Coast Waste Services, a regional partnership between Handybin Waste Services, City of Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Valley Council and Bellingen Shire Council.
Once the app is downloaded to a resident’s mobile phone, they enter their street address and can begin accessing information relevant to their region.
“You can easily set reminders for when to put out your yellow, red and green bins for collection,” City Infrastructure Acting Director Daniel Noble said.
“There’s also a handy link to book a bulky household waste collection.
“One of the best features is a searchable A-to-Z guide which advises you how to manage a particular product. “For instance, if you type in aluminium foil (dirty) it tells you it should go in the red bin while beer cans or bottles should go in the yellow.
“And did you know unwanted bread should go in your green bin?”
The app contains useful information on the Englands Road Waste Management Facility, and Lowanna, Coramba and Woolgoolga transfer stations.
This includes operational hours and what items can be dropped off at no charge, and where.
Educational tips also feature on the app, with links to worm farming, composting and mulching.
