DEAR News Of The Area,
I WAS deeply moved by Mr Bartlett’s letter (‘Autism: I did not fail at life, I survived’ Coffs Coast News Of The Area, 14/8/26).
It was extremely brave of him to write about his personal struggle to fit in to a society which did not understand, appreciate or accommodate him.
It is a relief to hear that that has changed and that he has received a diagnosis which has identified his unique traits.
His courage, tenacity and determination to continue in spite of continual failure is remarkable and praiseworthy.
That he has been able to go on for 50 years trying to enter and remain in the workforce is sheerly unbelievable.
I regret all his wasted years; I wish him all the best for the years to come.
With the appropriate assistance I sincerely hope he may find a workplace that can and will make allowances for his condition and modifications which will allow him to thrive, achieve and reap the rewards which come with gainful employment.
I hope that, at the same time, he learns new skills to continue making his way forward in a society which now welcomes people with differences.
