Coffs Harbour Christian Community School students take fundraising to new heights

COFFS Harbour Christian Community School students have completed their sixteenth year of “Run for Membantu”, raising a record-breaking $90,375.

More than just a race, “Run for Membantu” began as a traditional school Cross Country event and has grown into a powerful act of generosity – one that continues to change lives for children in need.

“This event is about far more than just running,” said event organiser Chris O’Brien.

“The word ‘Membantu’ in Indonesian means ‘to help,’ and that’s exactly what our Run for Membantu campaign is about – helping our students realise they can use what they already have, their energy, their time, their voice and their community, to make a real difference in the lives of others – following the example of Jesus.”

The money will fully cover the cost of two urgent building projects at children’s homes supported by the Widya Asih Foundation in Bali, where more than 200 children live and are cared for in a safe and nurturing environment.

These projects include a new toilet and shower block for boys at the Melaya children’s home, providing clean, safe facilities that promote health and dignity, as well as a covered clothes-drying area at the Blimbingsari children’s home to help prevent mould and illness during the wet season.

These projects address very practical needs, ensuring children have safe spaces to live, learn and grow.

The four-week fundraising effort brought the entire school community together.

Students ran lunchtime stalls, took on personal challenges, and invited sponsorship from family and friends as they chose to “go without for those without”.

The campaign culminated in a vibrant celebration day featuring the event’s traditional cross-country race, a colourful fun run and a carnival atmosphere filled with laughter and community spirit.

The event not only delivered practical support but also reinforced the values at the heart of the school: compassion, service and a genuine commitment to others.

Principal of Coffs Harbour Christian Community School, Andrew Lynn, said, “As a Christian community, we want our students to understand that loving others isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we do.

“This fundraiser is one way our students put that love into action. I am so proud of the heart of generosity that is flourishing in our students and community.”
