THE Dorrigo Support Centre hosted Christmas Lunch at the Dorrigo Community Hall for the town’s senior citizens and their support network.
At the heart of the Dorrigo Support Centre is a clear and deeply held purpose to help seniors remain living safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible, the Centre’s Coordinator, Alex Mooney told News Of The Area.
“Navigating the aged care system can be complex and overwhelming, and it is a privilege to advocate for the senior community of Dorrigo and surrounding areas by helping individuals and families understand their options and access the support they need.
“Alongside practical care and coordination, the Dorrigo Support Centre places strong value on connection, offering a high rotation of community events and social experiences that keep seniors engaged, supported, and connected to the life of the community.”
The annual Christmas Lunch is one such event, this year attended by the Bellingen Shire Council General Manager Mark Griffioen who congratulated Ms Mooney and her team for all they do for seniors on the plateau.
“Council is proud of the services delivered through the Dorrigo Support Centre which plays such a central role in the wellbeing and thriving of so many people,” he said.
“The hall looked stunning, and everyone brought their Christmas cheer, making the day a joy to attend.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful celebration … of Dorrigo’s tight-knit community, and their ability to support and encourage connection.”
Bellingen Shire Council Deputy Mayor Cr Graeme Shephard represented the Mayor at the event, sharing words of appreciation for the staff, contractors, and local businesses who make the event happen.
“This annual event is our way of expressing our appreciation and gratitude to our seniors, who form the backbone of our community,” said Councillor Shephard.
“I want to thank the incredible team at the Dorrigo Support Centre who together with a dedicated team of contractors, support more than 200 seniors to live safe and well at home.
“Their work ensures that seniors feel valued and cherished, not only during the festive season but all year round.”
Showcasing the spirit of the plateau, local musician John Peppercorn provided live music while student volunteers from Dorrigo High School served lunch, and Dorrigo Rotary Club volunteers poured tea and coffee.
A wider team prepared a feast for 186 guests and volunteers, with 46 meals delivered to seniors unable to attend in person.
