LETTER: Brelsford Park needs a good clean

DEAR News Of The Area,

THERE is not enough effort by half being put into the cleaning of Brelsford Park. The tables are always filthy and need proper cleaning. We need to get rid of the constant graffiti, which is always being scribbled over the seating and table tops.

There is rubbish everywhere, and broken glass and cans. It is not picked up on a daily basis.

This was supposed to be one of the jewels in Coffs Harbour’s crown, and it falls very short.

Wasn’t this space meant for people to sit and enjoy themselves?

So far it is a complete waste of money. The small area, which was supposed to be for musicians, is pathetic. You’d be lucky to get two guitarists and a set of drums on it.

It’s not as if Coffs Harbour City Council can’t afford to have this area cleaned properly and regularly. We pay high enough rates, so what are they saving them for?

More clean-up workers are required. So, come on Council, lift your game and spend some money on the important things, and keep our City clean.

Or, more importantly, get off your behinds and take a look at how bad this is yourselves,  instead of sitting in your offices doing nothing.

I’ve spoken to some of the workers doing the clean-ups and they say they are told specifically not to touch certain areas. So it’s not the

fault of these people, but where these ‘rules’  come from.

So, go on Council, go out there and take a look at how little is being done and try putting a few more workers on to relieve the already-overloaded present ones.

The Community pays for this service and we want to see results.

I’ve been to see the staff at the Council office and they sweep everything under the carpet, excuse after excuse and nothing is done.

I’ve been up many times so they’ve had the opportunity to rectify this matter,  but obviously don’t pass the message on.

Perhaps when you actually read my complaint in print along with the public, something might get done.

Regards,

D. Wilson,

Coffs Harbour.
