ACCORDING to forecasts, we are heading towards a hot summer with intense bushfires a strong possibility.
The damage caused by wildfires in Europe have been constantly in the news.
This global problem has been exacerbated by the Australian government.
Anthony Albanese’s government is culpable when it comes to environmental protection and efforts to mitigate against climate change.
Australia is one of the top three exporters of fossil fuels in the world.
Richard Dennis, from the Australia Institute, points out that, since Albanese became prime minister, Australia has approved more than 25 new gas fields and coal mines.
Last September, Labor gave Woodside a 40-year extension for its huge gas operation in the Pilbara, which will have a negative impact on future climate.
Since Albanese became prime minister, Labor has spent more than $10 billion per year on fossil fuel subsidies. The Australian Institute estimates that we, the taxpayers, hand out about $31,000 per minute to fossil fuel companies that are making a fortune and pay very little tax.
Living on the mid north coast will become less comfortable in the future with the threat of heat waves and wildfires on the horizon due, to a significant extent, by the actions of our own government.
There will be many issues debated at the next election but the existential issue of climate change and the culpability of the Albanese government should surely be at the top of the list.
