Letter to the Editor: Rejecting the culture wars

DEAR News Of The Area,

THROUGH the recent election the Australian people have sent a very clear message that we reject the notion of ongoing culture wars and attempts to divide us.

We are a tolerant, multicultural society and though not perfect, after all we are a bunch of human beings, we obviously create enough real issues to deal with and do not need added issues to create fear and division.

We are not afraid of the issues within our society and we are capable of dealing with those very real life issues but they need to be highlighted clearly, honestly and fairly not as dog whistles, conspiracy theories or sensationalist propaganda.

In order to align with the election results much of the journalistic environment in the Australian media needs to shift to align with the thinking and aspirations of the Australian people so that we can take on board, learn about and deal with the real issues in a timely manner.

We will all be better individuals and a better country overall if our energies and resources are dealing with real life issues, in whatever form they take, rather than being distracted by hidden agendas and issues designed to divide us.

Regards,
Trevor HARRAGON,
Boambee East.
