PLAYTIME has a new offering at Aspect Macarthur School Coffs Harbour following a donation by the Rotary Club of Sawtell of playground equipment specially designed to meet the needs of students on the autism spectrum.
“Since beginning our association with the school approximately four years ago we have been able to provide the students with swimming and surfing lessons, second-hand tablets and now this sporting equipment,” the club’s Youth Director Alan Freedman told News Of The Area.
Since 2016, Aspect Macarthur School Coffs Harbour has given students on the autism spectrum a warm, welcoming and supportive place to learn.
“As the only autism-specific school in our region, they are passionate about making sure students enjoy an educational experience that’s both progressive and personalised,” Mr Freedman said.
“Their dedicated staff work in partnership with families to create meaningful learning opportunities that support each student’s strengths, interests and individual goals, helping them to thrive both at school and beyond.”
The equipment donated by the Rotary Club Of Sawtell provides students with valuable opportunities for sensory regulation, offering a variety of tools and resources to meet individual sensory needs, reduce noise levels and provide calming sensory breaks throughout the day.
By supporting students to regulate their sensory needs, this equipment helps create the conditions for improved focus, engagement and participation in learning, enabling students to access their educational program more successfully.
