THE Stig Family Charity Day golf event on Sunday 4 January, attracted a record 245 supporters to the fairways at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course.
Players came together to raise vital funds for research at the Children’s Cancer Institute.
Organisers Ray Stig and Raelene Squires hoped the event would push fundraising past the $500,000 mark after 32 years of fundraising.
While the milestone was narrowly missed, the result remained strong.
Organisers expect to donate around $20,000 from this year’s event to the Children’s Cancer Institute.
This brings the total raised since the event began to $495,500.
The Stig Family said the result would not be possible without the continued support of sponsors and the wider Nambucca Valley community.
“Their generosity and spirit remain the heart of this event,” Mrs Squires told News Of The Area.
Auctioneer Paul Usher led proceedings, driving bidding to new heights while adding plenty of energy and humour to the afternoon.
Golfers and supporters were fed throughout the day by the generous efforts of the Nambucca Heads Lions Club barbecue.
Volunteers were out in force running the putting competition, managing the trading table, selling raffle tickets on course, and keeping players refreshed with two roving carts.
“Their dedication and enthusiasm were evident across every part of the event.”
“Support from Brent and Johnathon at the Nambucca Island Golf Club made a real difference with the time and effort they put in to make the day run smoothly.”
On the course, the overall winners were the team from Trisley’s Betta Electrical, while the prize for Best Dressed went to the crowd-favourite Pink Watermelons, closely followed by the Crayons and the Superheroes.
