Woolgoolga CWA ready for ‘noisy and fun’ cent auction

THE Woolgoolga Branch of the Country Woman’s Association (CWA) is holding its annual Cent Auction on Saturday 30 August at 12.30pm, in their rooms on Beach Street.

It is the branch’s major fundraiser for the year, and proceeds assist in their annual donations to local schools.

“It is a fun afternoon, with a large pool of prizes, not to forget our fabulous afternoon tea,” President Trish Stabback said.

A cent auction is similar to a raffle but using lots of prizes.

You buy tickets and put your tickets into a container that sits in front of the prize you want to win.

One of the organisers draws from the box in front of a prize and the winning number is announced.

“It’s an afternoon with dozens of mini raffles,” Ms Stabback said.

Woolgoolga (CWA) has two rounds of the Cent Auction, with approximately 45 prizes per round.

“There’s an array of prizes, all sourced by our members over the course of the year; toys and crafts, kitchen and baked goods, vouchers from local businesses, some for the men in our lives and some for just about anyone.

“It’s noisy and a lot of fun when everyone moves around the tables, trying to decide how many tickets to place in the boxes, asking themselves – which one do I really want to win?”
