THE Woolgoolga District Orchid Society (WDOS) is holding its Annual Spring Orchid Show on Saturday, 3 October and Sunday, 4 October in the Sangeet Rooms, Wiigulga Sports Complex, Woolgoolga.
Free to attend, the show is open to the public at 9.00am until 3.00pm both days.
A magnificent array of beautiful exotic orchids is expected, WDOS President Bill Bright told News Of The Area.
“Even if you’re not an orchid grower, come and wend your way through these magnificent orchid species,” Mr Bright suggested.
“Learn what makes them so desirable to grow from our friendly and knowledgeable red-shirted team of Orchid Society members, who are only too happy to discuss why they are so passionate about growing orchids.
“Let them dispel the myth that orchids are so hard to grow, particularly the ‘Queen of Orchids’ – the fragrant Cattleya – and not to mention the very popular ‘moth orchid’, the Phalaenopsis.”
Unlike the society’s winter show, the spring show is judged officially by qualified orchid judges; members of the Mid North Coast Judging Panel.
Their job is to determine the Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, Best Specimen, President’s Choice and People’s Choice, along with Awards for Section Champions.
The show provides a sale section where would-be orchid growers of the future and those wishing to enhance their collection will find a plethora of superb orchids for sale, Mr Bright said.
“Why not make a day of it – bring the whole family have a wonderful day out,” he said.
“Take advantage of our beautiful headland just down the road, where you can watch the whales as they breach and swim past.
“Don’t forget to bring along your gold coins to enter the multitude of magnificent orchid raffles to be won.”
