Man charged with alleged break and enter offences

MATTHEW James Maton, 38, will face court again in August after being charged following a string of alleged break and enters in Coffs Harbour last month.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District commenced investigations after several businesses were broken into across the Coffs Harbour CBD and North Boambee Valley between Wednesday 21 May and Tuesday 3 June 2025.

Police allege Mr Maton broke into the businesses using tools to smash glass, and stole goods, cash and personal items.

About 1am on Saturday morning, officers were conducting high visibility patrols around the Coffs Harbour CBD when they located a silver sedan believed to be linked to the break and enters in a carpark.

The vehicle was subsequently searched with officers allegedly seizing numerous items believed to be stolen items from the businesses including a handheld cattle prod, clothing, boxes of cigarettes and vapes.

During the search, officers also located and seized two large knives and methylamphetamine, and six mobile phones.

Police arrested Mr Maton at the scene before he was being taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

He was charged with 11 offences.

At Parramatta local court on 7 June, Mr Maton was refused bail and ordered to appear before Coffs Harbour local court on 5 August.
