Cedar and Steam returns to Glenreagh

GLENREAGH Memorial Museum’s annual art and photo exhibition, Cedar and Steam, will be held from 27-28 June in the Glenreagh School of Arts hall.

“Come out to our delightful village for Cedar and Steam to encourage the participants, be delighted by the talented artistic works and to support our little Museum with this annual event,” said organiser Honi Reifler.

Paying homage to a village without residential mailboxes where everyone has to go to the local post office to collect their mail, a new special category has been chosen for this year’s exhibition – mailboxes.

The Glenreagh Creative Group have made a quilt depicting all aspects of mail, from hand embroidered envelopes to appliqued mailboxes and painted postal scenes.

Other entrants have photographed, painted or sketched quirky mailboxes they have seen in their travels.

The standard exhibition categories are photography, painting, drawing, fibre and 3D sculpture.

The nine local Orara Valley primary schools and homeschoolers in the district will enter the exhibition with artistic depictions of ‘communication’.

Three guest artists – Denise Hansford, Finley Stokes and Judith Hanson – will present a special display of their works.

Denise works in a variety of mediums, mainly pastels, graphite and water colour pencils.

Her speciality is animal and human portraiture.

Finley has entered his amazing stuffed toys in Cedar and Steam for the past two years, after developing a fascination with characters he saw from movies and video games as a child.

Judith, a volunteer with Glenreagh’s Community First Responders, will present a display of her intricate and beautiful cross stitches.

The exhibition opens at 6pm on Friday, 27 June.

Entry is $5 ($2 for children under 12) and includes a supper of hot soups and finger food.

A representative from Clarence Valley Council will officially open the exhibition at 7pm and the winners in each category will be presented with their prizes.

On Saturday, 28 June the exhibition will be open from 9am until 3pm.

Morning tea is included in the $5 entrance cost for adults and children enter free.
