LETTER: Farewell, dear friend

DEAR News Of The Area,

I RECENTLY saw a notice advising that a dear friend, Mrs Shirley Whackett, had passed away.

For many years Shirley volunteered at the Woolgoolga Retirement Village and Seagulls Day Care Centre, which gave daily respite for aged and disabled people in the vast Woolgoolga area.

Shirley helped with many craft ideas and shared her talents in painting, music, creating decorations for special events, and providing one-on-one support for clients.

Many residents around the Woolgoolga area found a friend in Shirley in addition to her talent in organising various activities for clients.

The Seagull Day Centre was honoured to receive Shirley’s care and talent, helping clients in a caring and professional manner.

Many clients and other volunteers were given her love and caring.

Socialisation and friendship is very important for many and Shirley gave that care in many professional ways.

Shirley and her husband, Harold, always offered their help and support for many in the Woolgoolga area and their care and help extended to their church activity.

Shirley was a wonderful, caring lady who will be missed by all those who came in contact with her.

I will miss her caring hugs given in time of need.
