MAYADA Oso’s days are spent supporting the students of Orara High School, a role that contributed to her being named Coffs Harbour’s Young Citizen of the Year.
The Student Learning Support Officer received the honour on Australia Day, just days before school resumed for the year.
The Orara High community has since congratulated Mayada, describing her honour as well-deserved.
Once the school’s captain, she now helps current students build confidence and reach their goals.
“Mayada represents the very best of our school community,” Principal Laura McRae said.
“Her resilience, compassion and leadership inspire us all.
“We are proud of the difference she continues to make.”
Mayada arrived in Australia as a refugee in 2018.
Since then, she has shown resilience, leadership and generosity.
As a student, she earned the respect of both peers and teachers.
Mayada’s award recognised her personal achievements and the positive impact she has on others.
Her story shows how opportunity, support and belonging can shape strong community leaders.
