ONE of Bellingen’s favourite theatrical exports recently delivered his inaugural performance as support artist for the touring cabaret show “Max to the Max”.
Raji Renshaw is already well known locally and farther afield, having starred in commercials for AAMI, McDonalds and Toyota.
He has wowed audiences on fashion runways in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast – all this at only 17 years old.
Raji counts modelling, acting, dancing and public speaking in his repertoire and is represented by ZBD, an international talent agency championing inclusion.
He appears in “Ochre & Sky” at the National Museum of Australia and is set to appear in an upcoming episode of ABC’s “Teenage Boss”.
“Max to the Max” is a comedy dance and cabaret show devised and performed by Max McAuley.
Max, like Raji, has Down syndrome.
At 32, he has 14 years of training and performing experience.
While the show originally premiered in Melbourne in 2024, Raji was invited to participate for the 2026 production and they opened the show at the Bellingen Memorial Hall on 26 April.
“I love being the support act, it’s pretty great!” Raji said.
“This is a big show, it’s exciting to do a show with another performer with Down syndrome.
“I’m looking forward to the tour; I’ve never done a tour.
“I can’t wait to perform and to spend time with Max.”
Collaborating with Max, director Ché Pritchard, Philip Channells and Anna Wallman, Raji is building professional networks and mentoring relationships.
These partnerships are likely to lead to future inclusive arts projects in regional NSW.
In “Max to the Max” Raji offers a unique performance.
It is authentic, funny and engaging, appealing to a wide audience.
With his vivacious presence he is helping to make sure people with Down syndrome are visible, belong and have their turn in the limelight.
“I will say this to all the people out there just like me with Down syndrome,” Raji said.
“I want to show them how I am, how I feel, how we all feel love and give big thanks to the world.
“We are lucky to be different.
“We are all different and together we are all one, that’s who we are.
“I am really proud to be me.
“To people with Down syndrome… follow your dreams!”
“Max to the Max” will tour to Ballina on 5 June and Newcastle on 26 June.
