Letter to the Editor: What is happening with Coffs Airport?

DEAR News Of The Area,

RECENTLY a friend needed to fly to Melbourne for a family funeral.

Horrified that the cheapest option out of Coffs was $1300, friends suggested he look at the Gold Coast or Ballina as they had used both as alternatives.

He flew out of the Gold Coast.

$450 return flight, about $100 in petrol costs and $75 for three days secure parking.

$675.00 all up.

Meaning he could actually do the trip twice from the Gold Coast for the same price.

I know the Gold Coast airport is busier, which keeps prices down, but surely Coffs can do better than this and things will only get worse as belts tighten and we all need to fly from other locations.

Our local politicians all have tax/rate payer budgets for such things, not so we mere mortals, does that mean they aren’t working on such things with any urgency?

Regards,
Cheryl COOPER,

Coffs Harbour.
