PERSONAL experience in the special care nursery at Coffs Harbour Health Campus has inspired a generous donation from Coffs Harbour resident Ms Jill de Clercq to help newborn babies requiring specialised respiratory support.
The donation has funded the purchase of an Airvo 3 high-flow oxygen device, which helps babies with breathing difficulties and reduces the need for newborns to be transferred to a hospital outside of the Mid North Coast for treatment.
“Our grandson spent almost three weeks in the special care nursery as a newborn and our family remains profoundly grateful for the exceptional care he received in those early weeks of life,” Ms de Clercq told News Of The Area.
“The dedication, expertise and compassion shown by the staff provided him with the strongest possible foundation and played an important role in giving him the best start in life.
“Today, as a healthy and successful adult, we often reflect on the difference that care made to his future.
“The support provided to our grandson and our family during that time is something we will always value and deeply appreciate.”
Special care nursery and maternity nurse unit manager Minna Tyler highlighted the versatility of the new equipment.
“This is an incredible piece of equipment that offers flexibility across the unit,” Ms Tyler said.
“While it plays a significant role in supporting our smallest patients, it can also be used for adults if required, ensuring we can provide respiratory support where it’s needed most.”
The new equipment will enhance the team’s ability to support vulnerable newborns while keeping families closer to home and connected to their communities.
