Coffs doctors lead emergency life support courses in Tonga

ROTARY Clubs of Coffs Harbour will soon farewell Coffs Harbour Base Hospital emergency department doctors Dr Alan Tankel and Dr Karly Field, who will return to Vava’u in Tonga to conduct two emergency life support courses from 29 June 29 to 3 July.

The doctors have been visiting Tonga annually for 10 years and this will be their second visit to Vava’u.

They will travel with seven other emergency medicine specialists from around Australia and New Zealand and three nurses who have extensive experience in both emergency medicine and education.

The team plans to teach half the medical and nursing staff on the island on the first course and the other half on the second course.

The Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour Daybreak contributed funds to support the work in Tonga.

“Over the years we have come to know about Dr Tankel’s work in Tonga through our connection with other Rotary clubs in the area, and participate in fund-raising to support his work,” said Bev Stalling, the international services director of the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour Daybreak.
