GROW your health and wellbeing by visiting the botanic garden in Coffs Harbour during Botanic Gardens Week from Monday 18 to Sunday 24 May.
The Friends of the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden are offering free guided walks to rejuvenate the body and mind during the week.
This includes a ‘Wonder Walk’ – a sensory mindful experience of nature, and a ‘Garden Explorer Walk’ – to learn about some fascinating plants in the garden’s Living Plants Collection.
Visitors need to register for the free Wonder walks and The Garden Explorer Walks via the garden website or search Eventbrite Coffs Harbour Botanic Garden.
For a rejuvenating self-guided two kilometre walk at any time of the year visitors can download the interactive guide for the ‘Best of the Coffs Harbour Garden’ trail on the ‘Coffs Coast Explorer’ app which is available from the Apple store and Google Play.
This variety packed garden trail guide is a collaborative effort between the Friends of the Botanic Garden and the City of Coffs Harbour.
A Seasonal Observations walk has also been added on Friday 22 May.
Enjoy a half hour walk exploring the wonders of the green heart of Coffs Harbour with an experienced and knowledgeable guide.
Everyone is welcome to this free walk.
Meet at the entry at 10am.
Visitors may also choose to grow their health at the garden by just catching up with friends over a cuppa at the café, having a picnic, finding a quiet place to meditate or just watching the abundant birdlife.
“Research has shown that people who spend time in green spaces are more physically active, have better heart health, and experience lower rates of chronic disease,” says Graham Tupper, President of the Friends of the Botanic Garden.
“Botanic Gardens Week also coincides with National Volunteer Week and the Friends of the garden will also be offering information on how people can volunteer in the garden.
“Studies also show that as well as providing valuable community services volunteering greatly improves mental and physical health and fosters social connection which helps to reduce stress.
“There is a place for everyone in the botanic garden, the green heart of our city,” says Graham.
