COFFS Harbour Creative Arts Group’s (CHCAG) newest exhibition “Monochrome” was opened by the Club President, Sue Roberts, on Saturday 30 May at the Showground Art Gallery.
In welcoming members and visitors to the show, Ms Roberts remarked on how CHCAG members had excelled with this exhibition.
“The way they have interpreted the Monochrome theme is amazing,” Ms Roberts said.
“It is great seeing our members participate with enthusiasm in these exhibitions to showcase their artwork.”
The recent Showground Gallery Art Prize was hailed as a most successful exhibition, with many visitors to the gallery to view the artworks.
The People’s Choice winner from the Art Prize was announced on Saturday and was awarded to Christine Train for her artwork titled “Morning Walk”.
This piece also won the first prize in the Acrylic Section.
In congratulating the artist, Ms Roberts commented on the positivity of the visitors viewing the Art Prize and voting for an artwork piece that appealed to them.
“Many commented that it is really hard to choose, as there are so many contenders for the People’s Choice,” Ms Roberts said.
The Showground Art Gallery committee prides itself on offering a range of exhibitions and classes for members and the general public.
“Members’ exhibitions are held throughout the year and classes in mediums such as watercolours, acrylics, pen and wash, and coloured pencils are offered throughout each school term and cater for all levels of experience including beginners,” Ms Roberts said.
“Workshops are offered and, coming up on October 24 and 25, there is a weekend Pastel Workshop with Desley Stewart.”
Ms Stewart is a representational artist who works mainly in pastel. She is drawn to the complexity of nature and says she enjoys finding beauty in the everyday.
She is an Exhibiting Member of the Royal Art Society of NSW and has completed training and workshops with many international pastel artists.
The current “Monochrome” exhibition will continue until 8 July. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 2.00pm and is free to visit.
