AROUND Coffs Harbour there are several multimillion-dollar developments that have closed footpath access and, in some cases, street access, so that they can build unimpeded.
In some cases this limiting of access can extend for up to two years, during which local businesses and local residents are restricted.
How should multimillion-dollar development be allowed to impact local businesses over a two-year period to the point of sending them broke?
These businesses should take Council and the developers to court to seek compensation for the inconvenience and loss of income.
Permission to close streets or footpath access should be limited to hours or days – not years.
