TO those who voted National in the recent Federal election, especially those who did so because they believed an independent could not be as effective as voting a candidate in from one of the two main parties – consider this.
Because of the decision of Pat Canaghan’s party to split with the Liberals, your vote has been converted into a highly funded joke.
The Nationals are now disconnected from effective influence.
He will be paid to sit in Parliament, as an observer, with no more power to represent you than the visiting school children who watch Parliament from the visitor’s gallery.
Clearly the internal politics of his party was more important to him than representing you and the Mid North Coast.
Otherwise he would have stood up and declared his personal objection to the split, he would have put the trust you gave him front and centre.
He could move to become an independent to protect the power you gave him when you gave him your vote.
But no, as usual, he voted along with his tribe.
His tribe is not the same as you and I, but of course, he will be paid handsomely to occupy a seat that could have had a better person sitting in it.
