NORTH Coast’s under-15s produced the moment of the day with a stunning late winner to edge Newcastle Olympic 2-1 in their Premier Youth League clash at the Coffs Coast Synthetics on Sunday.
With the scores locked at 1-1 and the match seemingly destined for a draw, North Coast’s captain Myles Reedy unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 metres that rocketed into the top corner.
The Olympic goalkeeper managed to get fingertips to the ball, but there was simply too much power behind the strike.
North Coast then withstood a fierce Newcastle Olympic fightback over the closing eight minutes to seal a memorable victory.
North Coast Football talent development manager Nico Bonarrigo could feel the intensity from the dugout.
“It was an intense game, a technical game and well fought from both sides,” he reflected.
The under-14s were left frustrated after dominating large periods of their match, creating a host of scoring opportunities but being held to a 0-0 draw. A missed penalty proved particularly costly.
Newcastle Olympic proved too strong in the remaining fixtures, recording an 8-0 victory in the under-13s, a 3-0 win in the under-16s and finishing the day with a 4-1 triumph in the under-18s.
North Coast Football coach Becky WIlson praised the strength of the opposition.
“They are always big, strong teams who are well drilled year in and year out,” she said.
