THE Rotary Club of Sawtell’s Youth Exchange Program has farewelled Toormina High School student Saskia Iredale, who leaves for Denmark in early January.
Saskia attended a special dinner on 8 December at the Sawtell RSL Club where she proudly wore her Rotary Youth Exchange blazer.
“At a special gathering… our club’s latest outbound exchange student, Saskia, was presented with the Australian flag by our Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan, prior to her departure next month,” Youth Director Alan Freedman, who is Saskia’s counsellor, told News Of The Area.
Saskia received the Australian Constitution at the event, which was also attended by Toormina High School principal Paul Humphrey.
Saskia will be in Denmark for 12 months.
She will stay with four different families during this time and go to school alongside Danish students as well as attend Rotary meetings and assist her host club.
A student from Denmark will be hosted by Sawtell Rotary Club in July as part of the exchange, with Mr Freedman to also act as his or her counsellor.
“They will also attend school here and join in our club meetings and functions.
“The Rotary Club of Sawtell strongly supports Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program.”
