What’s Vibin’: New attractions, community focus at Bellingen Show

THE Bellingen Show is returning bigger and better on May 9 and 10 after being washed out last year.

Show President Emily Kenny said while the cancellation of last year’s event was heartbreaking, it showed just how important the show is to the community.

“The support we received was incredible, and this year through all our planning and listening to the community, we have aimed to ensure the show not only reflects what our community values now, but also builds a sustainable event for years to come.

“However the show is more than just an event – it’s a cherished tradition that brings our community together, tells our region’s story, and showcases what makes us special.”

What sets Bellingen Show apart from many other regional shows is the focus on tradition, authenticity and a sense of belonging.

There are no mechanical rides or a sideshow alley.

Instead there are opportunities to make connections, appreciate the region’s creatives and artisans, and learn about agriculture.

“I believe it’s so important to keep the spirit of the Bellingen Show alive not just as a tradition, but as a platform to educate, inspire, and connect our community.

“By highlighting agriculture and local stories, we can empower the next generation to take pride in where they come from and where we’re headed,” Emily said.

New features this year include:

– Ag Education Hub. Children can pick up an Ag Education Passport to guide them on an agricultural adventure across the showground, finding educational displays and completing activities to earn prizes. There is also career information on offer for older visitors.

– Bellinger River Agricultural Society scholarship: The scholarship provides up to a total of $5000 to young people who live in the Bellingen Shire to help them pursue a career in agriculture, sustainability, rural industries, land management, or rural trades. Warren Weick Real Estate is the show’s Principal Partner supporting the scholarship. The winner will be announced at the show.

– The Great Fashion Stitch Up: Come to the Sewing Station turn scraps from the textile waste pile into a new creation, which you can then show off on the Red Carpet Runway on Sunday.

All the old favourites are also back: woodchopping, cattle, horses, poultry, the pavilion, the Artisan Hub, two days of local entertainment, the Mongrel Dog Show and heaps of fun games and competitions such as the ever-popular Young Farmers’ Challenge.

Busways are running free continuous loops through town – the timetable is in the program which is in outlets in the Bellingen Shire or on the show’s website.
