Winter’s the season for stories ‘Sentimental Value’ is one of the acclaimed movies on the Jetty Flicks program.

Winter’s the season for stories

WINTER is here and so is the rain.

While staying inside until spring is certainly one option, a far better one is settling in for the upcoming film season at Coffs Harbour’s Jetty Memorial Theatre.

Bringing together a rich and wide-ranging program across Jetty Flicks, special event screenings and National

Theatre Live, the season celebrates cinema’s unique power to entertain, provoke thought and bring people together.

Audiences are invited to experience stories from around the world on the big screen: from acclaimed documentaries to unearthed gems and powerful stage productions captured live from the theatre.

Jetty Flicks continues its commitment to independent and arthouse programming with a standout trio of films.

“Live It Up: The Mental as Anything Story” offers a warm and nostalgic look at one of Australia’s most iconic bands, tracing their rise, cultural impact and enduring legacy through decades of music and mayhem.

Nouvelle Vague turns its attention to cinema itself, with Richard Linklater reimagining the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless”.

The result is a playful and affectionate tribute to the French New Wave and the revolutionary spirit that reshaped modern filmmaking.

To round out the Jetty Flicks program is “Sentimental Value”, Joachim Trier’s acclaimed follow up to

The Worst Person in the World and winner of the Cannes Grand Prix.

Starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan

Skarsgård and Elle Fanning, the film centres on two sisters reconnecting with their estranged father,

a once celebrated director who attempts to rebuild his legacy through a deeply personal film.

When one daughter is replaced by an American movie star, long buried family tensions surface, blurring

the lines between art, memory and emotional truth.

Alongside Jetty Flicks, the season expands into world class live performance with National Theatre

Live, bringing acclaimed London productions to Coffs Harbour.

Special event screenings of documentaries “We Are Not Powerless”, “Common Wealth” and “Beyond Borders Patagonia” further deepen the program’s focus on contemporary storytelling and life’s incredible moments both big and small.

Each of these documentary screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.

Shake off the winter stasis with a season of bold, thoughtful films – the perfect antidote to grey skies and cold nights.
